Project Summary

Glencoe Public Library is a charming, patron-focused library located on Chicago’s North Shore. Built in 1936 and merely 20,000 square feet in size, the Glencoe Public Library is an invaluable resource to diverse age groups from students, adults and seniors who visit the library every year. As a facility that seeks to bring community members together; comfort and aesthetics are paramount to the library's ability to enhance their visitors’ enjoyment and experience. In an effort to discover ways that the facility could improve occupant comfort and reduce energy costs, the Glencoe Public Library participated in an energy assessment program administered by 360 Energy Group.

This energy assessment was funded by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Illinois Energy Now Program and conducted by the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC). The Glencoe Public Library was interested in having an energy assessment performed as a way to improve the comfort and aesthetics of the building.

Energy Solutions

360 Energy Group worked with the Glencoe Public Library to identify seven energy saving and comfort improvements, including the replacement of the library’s 68% efficient boiler that was original to the building. Once the assessment was completed, 360 Energy Group provided technical and application assistance to the Glencoe Library as part of the Illinois Energy Now sponsored Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Public Sector Energy Efficiency Program that helped the library receive $12,000 in Illinois Energy Now Incentives. This incentive package helped the library pay for the installation of the two smaller 95% efficient boilers. The new boilers are expected to improve occupant comfort and reduce the library’s gas use by more than 1,800 therms annually.
